Department of Commerce - Governor Richardson

I'm sure most of us are simply disappointed with the fact that Governor Richardson (D-NM) decided to decline the position offered as Secretary of Commerce.

However, we must make every effort to ensure that Latinos success doesn't simply become one of tainted scandals even before taking office.

I can recall that Henry Cisneros was certainly a great loss to a movement in Latino politics.

Governor Richardson is a beltway boy. He'll bounce back somehow, but he must be careful moving forward.
I am disappointed but not surprised. There has been several rumors about Gov. Richardson about many things. People are not perfect. But I think we need to bring forth new leaders in our community. Power and politics and the system as we know it, is a set up for something to happen. There has to be simpler way. I think Latin@s need to have a national dialogue about this. This conversation needs to happen from the bottom up and not a dialogue called by national Latin@ organizations. I suggest that we find the "centering questions" first and not the answers. A good question is 95% of the answer.

What are your centering questions on Latin@ Leadership?
I think that is part of the problem. The fact that we aren't surprised by the fact that Latino political leaders make the decision to adopt corruption is not acceptable. We understand and know that the world is not fair, therefore, we should hold ourselves to a higher standard, not because we are a minority, but because we are proud of the fact that we would knowingly make that decision.
Having the conversation begin from the bottom up is a great idea. However, we must make sure that begins at home with us and not deflect or expect anyone or anything else to take that responsibility.
Change begins with the self. Yes...!! Gracias for pointed that out!

Let us not try to go to the center of an issue simply to try and placate others either.

We shouldn't speak to issues that the GOP would like us to address, simply to pacify them.
